A Time for Everything: Discerning the Seasons

I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. You can do all things through him who strengthens you
— Philippians 4:12-13

Whether you sit atop the glorious mountaintop or in the depths of the valley of long-suffering, we know this: there is a time for everything. When you sense a shifting of the season, no matter your vantage point, it can feel scary. We become comfortable and make our proverbial homes, despite the lifelong reality that not one season is created to be forever in the Lord.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace”(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).

Make no mistake: your season will change.

For me, discerning a shift in the Lord is undeniable: the grace lifts, the Lord begins to speak in new ways, you start to dream of things you have never dreamed of, the eyes of your spirit see differently, and the Holy Spirit begins to woo you where His wind is blowing. It’s nothing you did, or didn’t do. Because He has made everything beautiful in time, and it’s His timeline I want to be on.

Here’s my question for you: Have you accurately discerned the season you’re in? Are you all-in and present? Have you outstayed your welcome? Are you supposed to be dancing, but you’re mourning? Are you supposed to uproot, but you’re planting? Are you speaking, but you should be silent? Are you on the mountain top when the Lord is calling you to a pruning season? Are you squatting in the valley when the Lord is inviting you to ascend to the heights?

“I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. You can do all things through him who strengthens you” (Philippians 4:12-13).

Discern the seasons, and may He find you in the season to which He intends. Let each one have its full work as He planned, for He has indeed made everything beautiful in time.

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You chose, created, and brought me forth into Life. I thank You for the divine plans and supernatural assignments for my life set before the creation of the earth! I pray that You would help me to discern the seasons You have me in, and that You will find me in step with the seasons You’ve set before me without hesitation or fear.

Would You help me learn to love change, to love the shifting of seasons? To learn to trust You in the season to which You’ve called me? By Your grace, will You help me to be completely in and present to the season in which I find myself? Thank You for Your sovereignty, and that I can trust You have good plans for my life! In the trustworthy name of Jesus, amen.
