Celebrate God’s Spirit that Lives Within You

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
— Romans 10:9

When we believed the gospel and trusted Jesus to save us from sin and death, we were sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit. Through our declaration of faith in Jesus as Lord, the Bible calls us God’s temple “God’s Spirit dwells in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Merriam-Webster defines “dwell” as:

  1. Remain for a time

  2. To live as a resident

  3. To exist

God’s Spirit does indeed dwell inside each of us. Paul David Tripp writes, “It was not enough for Him to just forgive us, He had to come and live inside us, or we could not be what we had been re-created to be, or do what we had been reborn to do.”

Though saved by our declaration of faith, “we need the presence and power of the Holy Spirit living inside us, because sin kidnaps the fires of our hearts, blinds our eyes and weakens our resolve.” The need for the gift of God’s Spirit is profound.

As followers of Christ, Jesus promises the Spirit is not just a visitor in our lives, He sends the Spirit to be with us forever (John 14:16). Through faith, God did not just forgive and accept us into His family. He knew we needed daily help.  He came to us and made us “the dwelling where God lives” (Ephesians 2:20).

CELEBRATE THIS REALITY!!

Consider the wonder of this identity. Tripp writes, “He graces His children with the convicting, sight-giving, desire producing and, strength affording the Holy Spirit that lives within us. He has not just forgiven us, He has taken residence in us,” and here we can abound in hope.
