The Promise of a Savior: Prophecies Fulfilled

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”
The Bible tells a story of a Father who loved His children so deeply that He made a way to bring them back when they fell.
When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden and sin entered the world, God made provision to deliver mankind from sin and the dominion of darkness through the promise of a Savior, One who would pay the heaviest price by coming to earth in human form and laying down His life.
He took upon Himself the judgment we deserved so that we might not only be reconciled to the Father, but also receive the gift of eternal life.
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” (Galatians 4:4-7, NIV)
“The seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head.” (Galatians 3:15, NIV)
Biblical scholars approximate that there are about three hundred or more Old Testament prophecies concerning Jesus, about His birth and lineage, His life and ministry, and His death and resurrection. In His infinite wisdom, God wrapped these prophetic promises in divine mystery, discernible only by the Spirit of God resting upon the prophets of old. Though spoken centuries before their fulfillment, most people could not fully interpret them. This was by design to protect a sacred event that would change the course of mankind forever. It was the ultimate demonstration of love: that God’s righteous Son would be made sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. This was God’s mysterious plan, hidden from previous generations but revealed to God’s holy apostles and prophets. That mysterious plan is the grand revelation that both Jews and gentiles receive salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look. (1 Peter 1:10–12, NIV)
“As I briefly wrote earlier, God himself revealed his mysterious plan to me. As you read what I have written, you will understand my insight into this plan regarding Christ. God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now by his Spirit he has revealed it to his holy apostles and prophets. And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 3:3-6, NLT)
“The mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” (Colossians 1:26–28, NIV)
When prophecies made centuries earlier by different prophets, from different eras come to pass in great detail, it confirms the accuracy and divine authority of God’s Word. It gives us unshakable confidence in our faith and fills our hearts with gratitude for our loving Savior.
The question is: Have you received Him into your heart?
A Few Prophecies Fulfilled
Isaiah foretold a virgin would conceive (Isaiah 7:14).
Micah declared the Savior would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2).
Zechariah spoke of a King riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9).
David described His betrayal and suffering centuries before it happened (Psalm 22).
The Blessings We Have Received
Through Jesus our wonderful Savior:
All sin has been forgiven; everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
We have been reconciled to the Father and now have direct access to Him.
We have been delivered from the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of light.
We have dominion over sin, and through faith in Christ we receive power to become sons and daughters of God, sharing in His inheritance.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of Jesus, the fulfilment of every promise and prophecy.
Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice on the cross. Thank You for forgiving all my sins and giving me dominion over the enemy. Would You indwell me and be Lord and Savior of my life.
Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide me always.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
To have a heart like Mary’s is nothing natural at all. Before we talk about her immediate reaction when approached by the angel Gabriel, let’s remember that she was young (probably 14-15 years old), poor, and engaged to Joseph. These characteristics would make her seem quite unsuitable for much of any big task–but God! Gabriel was clear in his message, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you…You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you will give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High” (Luke 28-32). Three points stand out which mark Mary’s immediate supernatural reaction: 1) Mary believed God. 2) Mary feared God more than man. 3) Mary promptly and willfully obeyed God.
