40 Day Fast: Follow Jesus: Put Down The Fork
Monday, July 6-Saturday, August 15
Is there an area of your life that is out of alignment with God? Are you struggling with the feeling that “something is off” personally, in your family, state, or country? Are you struggling to surrender to God’s Word/will in a certain area? Maybe it’s the never-ending struggle with the same battle…over and over again…or it’s the paralyzing feeling of powerlessness in the face of problems…or an inability to hear God’s voice or direction…or even worse— you have become spiritually blinded/deafened, and you are nursing a heart calloused by sin. In times like this, God calls us to do what Jesus did: put down the fork and go into a special season of fasting and prayer.
Join us live on Zoom on July 13 and August 10 at 4:30pm CT as we gather in corporate prayer to seek Jesus together from July 6–August 15, 2026. Register for the Zoom link here.
Jesus fasted for these reasons:
1) Align Himself with His Heavenly Father: Before beginning His earthly ministry, Jesus spent time in solitude and prayer to align Himself with the Father's will.
2) Surrender to the Holy Spirit: Fasting was a way to declare mastery over His human nature so that He would live every moment directed by the power of the Holy Spirit. He fasted to subject His human nature to the Spirit.
3) Crucify the flesh: Jesus had to trust God over meeting His physical needs. Jesus fasted to show us that we didn't have to be controlled by our appetites. When tempted Jesus quoted scripture, showing that humans "shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God.”
4) Obtain breakthrough: Jesus fasted to obtain power from on High to defeat Satan and obtain breakthrough in His ministry.
5) Power and authority to do God’s work: After His baptism, even though Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and enjoyed God’s pleasure, He fasted to spiritually prepare and obtain power and authority to do the works of God on the earth. He entered the desert in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and 40 days later, He came out in the power of the Holy Spirit.
If the Son of God fasted for all the above reasons, don’t you think that we His disciples ought to follow His example? Fasting was not optional in biblical times and it’s not supposed to be optional now. Matthew 6 is clear—“When you pray…when youfast… when you give.” Nothing will release the supernatural power of God in your life like fasting. There are types/durations of biblical fasts for everyone. For more specifics, see the e-book Biblical Fasting and additional fasting resources here.
Join us in a 40 day fast beginning July 6, 2026. We will fast and pray for ourselves, our families, church, and nation to encounter the Lord in a powerful way. We will fast for God to empower men to become WARRIORS for Jesus, their families, and our nation. Please join us! We love and appreciate you!
