Jahan Berns, Triumph of Hope

Jahan’s life story is replete with trials, tragedies, and triumphs. She is a classic example of how God’s shining light cannot be overcome by darkness. Jahan’s Father, a military commander in Uganda was assassinated when she was just six years old. Following his death, Jahan’s family was robbed of everything, and they became destitute. Jahan was raised Muslim until her dramatic conversion to Christianity. Jahan migrated from Uganda to England, and finally to Birmingham, Alabama. As a Mortgage Banking & Litigation attorney, Jahan practiced law at the law firm of Sirote & Permutt, in Birmingham, AL, until she took a job as the Chief Operating Officer for JH Israel and U.S. Israel Education Association. Jahan is now in full-time ministry with Triumph of Hope, a non-profit she founded to ignite others with a love and passion for Jesus. She travels and speaks widely preaching the Gospel and sharing her inspirational story in both Christian and secular settings. Her heart is to bring hope, salvation, and deliverance to people who now struggle as hard as she once did. She is married with two children.

Chris Knight, The Refuge Ministries

Chris is a wonderful evangelist with a heart for the lost, especially those struggling with addictions. Chris had a very tough childhood and young adult life. Battling with addiction, homelessness, and other difficult challenges, Jesus intervened in Chris’ life and saved him, and set him free from addiction. The Lord also filled him with a burning passion to preach the gospel, lead people to Jesus, and help people find freedom from addictions. Ten years ago, Chris opened his home and started taking in people who needed to get off drugs. He and his wife single-handedly started working with these people to get them off drugs. Simultaneous with that, Chris was preaching the gospel in Oneonta and wherever God would open doors.

Today, Chris and his wife Lisa Knight run an incredible Christian rehab ministry called the Refuge, as well as a business that employs the men and women who are being rescued from addiction through their ministry. As an evangelist, Chris continues to actively preach the gospel in churches, revival meetings, prisons and other restricted places.

Jeremiah Hill

Jeremiah Hill was a graduate from Struthers High School. He has been blessed with a servant's heart from a young age. When Jeremiah watched the tragedy of the terrorist attack on 9/11 take place, he knew at that moment he wanted to defend our country.

After he graduated high school, Jeremiah enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Jeremiah was assigned to 1st Battalion 1st Marines 0311 Infantry. He did two combat tours to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jeremiah was wounded in combat by an IED during both of his tours in Iraq. He received a Purple Heart for each time he was wounded. The second time Jeremiah was wounded was much more severe as he stepped on an IED. This should have been fatal but by the grace of God Jeremiah survived with severe injuries that left him hospitalized for a year. Jeremiah was then honorably medically retired from the Marine Corps.

Jeremiah returned home and had to navigate the difficulties of civilian life after the war. Not only did he have physical injuries to overcome he also suffered from PTSD. Jeremiah served during the initial surge in Iraq which saw the highest casualties of the war.

After his transition back to civilian life the war did not end for Jeremiah. He has been through many trials and tribulations, but the Lord has guided him through them all. His passion now is to preach the Gospel and help others heal their wounds.
