He Leads Me In Triumph

by: Anne Coleman Hufham

“But thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ and reveals the fragrance of his knowledge through us in every place.”‬‬ 2 Corinthians 2:14

These five words, “He Leads Me in Triumph” have been ringing in my ears for the last few days. The powerful provision of God is something I have experienced in my own life recently, and it has strengthened and affirmed my belief that God is always preparing us, whether we feel it or not, for every situation. Every hard circumstance that we walk through, every conversation with a friend, every scripture we read, every word that comes from Him is preparing us for the path that lies ahead. When God calls you to something, He will always equip you for it. With the Holy Spirit living inside of us, we live empowered, unafraid, overcoming lives.

I was reading the story of the temple tax in Matthew the other day and saw something so beautiful.

Matthew 17:24 says, “and when they came to Capernaum, those who take up the temple tax came to Peter and said, Does not your Teacher pay the temple tax? He said, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, what do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive custom or poll tax, from their sons or from strangers? And when he said, from strangers, Jesus said to him, so then the sons are free. But that we do not stumble them, go to the sea and cast a hook, take the first fish that comes up. And when you open its mouth, you will find a stater; take that and give it to them for me and you.”

The kings of the earth take and take, but Jesus supplies and covers. He modeled perfectly a life of such humility on earth, knowing that He belonged to another Kingdom. He paid the temple tax, washed the disciples' feet, was constantly being questioned, mocked, and eventually was given over to the kings of earth to be brutally beaten and killed. He lived His life in radical obedience to the Father, and entirely for the sake of another Kingdom, an unseen Kingdom. Now, because of the Holy Spirit - we can too.

“You are of God, little children, and you have overcome them because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

We can live as an overcomer even in the hardest circumstances, knowing that our citizenship is in Heaven with Jesus. Philippians 3:20 says,"But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.” Ephesians 2:6 says, “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” We have the ONE who conquered all living inside of us. He shows us and compels us to forgive, to testify, to LOVE even our enemies, knowing our reward in Heaven is great! And in the same way Peter found the coin in the fish's mouth, the Lord will always supply us with what we need.

With the Holy Spirit, we don’t have to be afraid. We have victory through Jesus Christ! Our faith in Him is the key to living an overcoming life. 1 John 5:4 says, “For everything that has been begotten of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory which has overcome the world - our faith.”

“I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20

In the commentary of my Living Stream Ministries Bible, it says “faith has an object, and it issues from its object. The object is Jesus, who is God incarnate. When man hears Him, knows Him, appreciates Him, treasures Him, He (God) causes faith to be generated in man by which man believes in Him.” To put it simply, the more we treasure, appreciate, adore the person of Jesus, the more this faith will grow and come alive in us. This is not trying, striving, doing, performing… it is loving, resting, believing, engaging, receiving, worshiping the One who gives Life! He says “He who believes into Me, as the scripture has said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.”

Prayer for Today

Praise You Father for loving us so much that you sent your Son Jesus to die on my behalf, that I might share in His life! I am now seated in Heavenly places with Christ. Holy Spirit, show me how to live a surrendered life and to embrace all that you have for me. I praise you Lord for giving us the victory through Jesus’ blood! He finished it all. May my life be a living sacrifice for you Father. Amen!
