Triumph of Hope’s 40 Day Fast

Beginning this past July and culminating in our annual Warrior Men's Retreat, we embarked on our second-ever 40-Day Fast. In this window of time, we encouraged our staff, friends, and those who engage with us to embrace a lifestyle of fasting and prayer beyond their norm for 40 days. For some, this looked like resisting food altogether for a period of time; for others, one meal a day; and still others simply denying and abstaining from their typical worldly pleasures of sorts. The heart was simple: to deliberately give our 'No' to food and the things of this world so that we can corporately give a much bigger yes to God.

As many have said before, including Ann Allen Salter, fasting without prayer is just a diet. So the fast went on; we prayed both in person, alone with God, and corporately on Zoom. We prayed for breakthrough in our personal lives and that of our families. We prayed for our nation and for a move of God to come. Twice, we gathered on Zoom and prayed for a move of God's Spirit. We prayed for God to raise Men of prayer and devotion following the upcoming retreat. We prayed and prayed.

As God does in typical fashion when his children obey, he responded. He moved tangibly in the lives of those participating and those we prayed for. We heard God's voice; he revealed his word afresh and poured out a deeper revelation of his heart. And to top it off, we saw a mighty harvest at the Men's retreat afterward.

Men answered altar calls, responded for prayer, confessed sin, and joined accountability groups going forward. We are grateful for God calling us deeper. We are learning as a ministry that when God calls, no matter the cost, it is foolish not to answer.
