A Prayer For Fathers
A Prayer to Pray on Father’s Day
Abba Father, I (we) want to lift up every father within the sound of my (our) voice or within reach of these words. And Lord, not just those who are fathers physically, but also those who are fathers legally, who may be fathers by circumstance, and most certainly those who are fathers spiritually.
Abba, may they know You intimately as their Father…the One who adores them, the One who sees them as a son, the One whose mercy never ends and whose grace abounds to cover their every misstep, every setback, every failure, every sin. May they know that even when they stray, even far away, You eagerly await their return, not with condemnation, but with celebration! And that their separation from You is forgotten, wiped out, as far as the east is from the west. All of this… not because You have to, but because you LOVE them more than words can express. For You knew them before they were born. You know every hair on their head. They are written in the palm of Your hand. May they know deep in their heart … they are Yours and You are theirs.
Lord Jesus, I (we) pray these fathers would seek deep relationship with You. For You came to reveal the Father’s love to them. Your light awakens their hearts. And just as the way was prepared for Your visitation here, so too, You have prepared the way for them: a way for them to be clean, white as snow; a purpose for their time here; and a place for them when they leave. Out of immeasurable, boundless, and wholly sacrificial LOVE for your bride, You bowed to the Father’s will to pay the ultimate price to see these amazing gifts brought to completion. I (we) pray that LOVE, Lord Jesus, poured into them, in turn, would overflow from them.
Holy Spirit, I (we) pray that these fathers would open their hearts and minds to You, to be led by Your truth and wisdom and instilled with Your understanding, Spirit to spirit. That You would counsel them with Your still, small voice, and with dreams and visions. That You would strengthen them in all power by His glorious might. Stir in them a heart of true repentance, so that You may reveal the knowledge of God to them. And grow in them true fear of the Lord … worshipful submission, respectful obedience, reverential awe.
May they come to know and sharpen the spiritual gifts You have designated for them, so that they may thrive in the purpose that You created for them since before they were born. May they bring forth the Kingdom here on earth as it is in Heaven.
May they walk in favor with You, Abba, and with man, wherever You may lead them. Remind them, Lord, that You Yourself will go before them and that You are with them, that You will neither leave them nor forsake them, so that their hearts will not be troubled, and they will not be afraid.
May you surround them with Godly friends with whom they can seek You, nurture and be nurtured, share in great adventure, and, when needed, receive lovingly correction. I (we) pray, Lord, that they would understand that alone they may be overpowered, that two can defend themselves, and that a cord of three is not quickly broken.
May they come to understand who the true enemy is. May they know that their battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of darkness. Dress them as warriors, Lord, in the full armor of God. With humility, may they continually yield to Your mighty hand. Help them, Lord, to stand firm in their faith and resist the enemy. Let them not fear suffering but rather see it as opportunities for growing in faith and for fighting the Kingdom’s battles that must be fought. By Your grace, Lord, make them strong, firm, and steadfast.
Abba, may they glorify Your Name in all that they are, what they speak, what they put their hands to, and even with their very thoughts … walking worthy of You, fully pleasing to You, and bearing fruit in every good work.
May You bless their families, Lord. For you, Abba, have blessed all creation through family. You are the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. You are the Father to a Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Christ, through whom You created all things. As they stand on Your firm foundation Father, bless them that they would be a foundation for the families You have entrusted to them …. Godly sons, husbands, fathers and friends … so that through them Your blessings may pass down a thousand generations.
Finally Lord, remind them that they as fathers are a son to the Father, a bride of the Son, and that the Holy Spirit was sent by You to be with them always, whether they are on the highest of mountains or in the deepest, darkest valley. Engrave permanently in their minds and on their hearts that they are Yours, now and forever more, and that they were created to be fathers in times just such as this!!!
Amen and Amen!!
