Day 39: Deception: The Greatest End Time Threat

“The greatest threat in these end times is not sickness, nor poverty, nor persecution, it is deception” (Derek Prince). In Matthew 24, Jesus warns his disciples three times in just 24 verses, “Do not be deceived.” To guard against deception, we must understand what it really is, and understand how the enemy uses it to steal, kill, and destroy. The quote attributed to either Adolf Hitler or his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, speaks to the satanic scheme which our world is still witnessing, “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.”

The spiritual root of deception is an evil spirit- the spirit of deception- which we must guard against as these end-times progress. A righteous lifestyle which includes prayer with regular fasting are the guardrails God has put in place for the protection of His children. We have been warned against deception repeatedly through His Word and the indwelling Holy Spirit, which guides us into all truth (John 16:13). There is no need to fear, and certainly no need to fall into the demon-infested ditches which line the narrow road of holiness. “For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). “Watch out that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4)

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for warning me repeatedly against deception. If I am deceived in any area of my life, please open my eyes to Your truth. Give me a passionate love and commitment for the truth. Deliver me from any and every spirit of deception. Turn my eyes from worthless things and preserve my life according to Your Word. You are my strength, my strong tower, and the anchor for my soul. Help me stay disciplined to stay on the narrow path which leads to life and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen!
