A Prayer to Pray on National Day of Prayer
A Prayer to Pray for our Nation on May 1
The month of May for many places is a bridge between the unpredictable but welcome weather of spring to the warmer, more stable few weeks of early summer. In the United States, the first Thursday of May each year carries an important significance when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation,” observing a National Day of Prayer. Below is a short prayer for our nation that I’d like to share with you.
Lord Jesus, I praise You for the extravagant grace and excessive mercy that You have poured out on our nation of America. Thank You, Lord for Your favor that has been on our nation since its birth. Thank You for the love You have lavished on us, the forgiveness You have extended us and the hope that You have instilled within us of the future and destiny of the United States of America. We ask, Lord, for Your continued guidance, protection and wisdom for our nation and our leaders across this land.
Most of all on this National Day of Prayer and not just this day, but throughout this year, I pray that we the people of the United States of America will do two important things as spoken in Your Holy Scripture - that we would humble ourselves before You, O Lord, and we will bless Your holy name.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (AMPC)
14 If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
Psalm 103:1-5 (AMPC)
1 BLESS (AFFECTIONATELY, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits– 3 Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities, Who heals [each one of] all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; 5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle's [strong, overcoming, soaring]! [Isa. 40:31.]
