A Prayer to Pray on Good Friday

Dearest God,

What was it like for you, to watch your son be beaten? To see him bloody? What was it like to watch the religious leaders beat the God they worshipped? What was it like to watch your son, respond to nails with love and mercy? Were you a proud Dad?

Jesus, precious Jesus. What was it like to give up heaven, and come and live this life? What was it like to be beaten by your own creation? What was it like to come to earth on a rescue mission to be rejected? How is it that you knew you would be betrayed, yet you loved them anyways?

Holy Spirit, help this to become real to me. May this not be just a story to me. Mark my life with the passion of Jesus. Help me to live a life worthy of his scars. Even though sometimes it may be weak, help me to continue saying yes to following Jesus.

Thank you Lord for loving me in this way. Today I humbly ask you, to help me love you in this way. Thank you for laying down your life for me. Now help me to lay down mine for you.
