Day 13: Fasting to Regain the Edge

Nothing puts a sharp edge on prayer like fasting. In The Fasting Edge, Jentezen Franklin explains, “It happens to all of us. We keep going and going and before we realize it, we just don’t seem to be as effective at anything as we used to be…Has your passion for the Lord waned?…Have you grown weary of the same old routine at work?…More to the point, have you simply grown dull? Abraham Lincoln is known for making the statement, ‘Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax.’ Fasting, prayer, and reading God’s Word work together just like the woodman’s tools used to sharpen an ax. Like sharpening an ax, fasting is a short season that produces a lasting effect.”

Fasting releases God’s supernatural power to work on your behalf; it is truly a spiritual power tool. Fasting will give you the cutting edge back—in all areas of your life. Nothing puts a sharp edge on life like fasting.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, please forgive me for “becoming dull” in any area of my life. Where I was once passionate and now am dry, please forgive me. Where I was once joyful and now am stale, please forgive me. Thank you for the supernatural power weapons of prayer and fasting. Use this dynamic duo in my life to restore to me the joy of my salvation. I want to dream again, and to be alive to all You have for me in this season. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in and through my life in the name of Jesus, amen!
