Day 37: Walking Consistently in Power and Authority
“You will move in power and authority when the Holy Spirit remains ungrieved in you”(Sensitivity of the Spirit, R.T. Kendall). If you were to ask Dr. Kendall how to walk consistently in power and authority his answer would be emphatic, “Find out what grieves the Holy Spirit, and don’t do it!” Grieving the Holy Spirit is one of the easiest things to do because He is extremely sensitive. In the Bible, this third person of the Trinity, our indwelling Holy Spirit, is depicted as a dove. The slightest disturbance—a sinful thought, word, action, and He in essence flies away. No, He will never leave you or forsake you, but anything disobedient to the Word will temporarily disconnect you from not only a sense of His presence, but from His power.
The Holy Spirit is a person with feelings and grieving Him does cause Him pain. There’s no better way to find out what you are doing to grieve Him than to simply ask. Fasting always puts a sharp edge on this prayer: “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24).
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for Your gift of the person of the Holy Spirit. Please forgive me for the many times I have grieved Him. Search me and show me the ways I am grieving You now. May Godly sorrow lead me to repentance wherever it is needed. Let this be a reset season for me. I desire to do Your will; I desire to walk in Your power and authority over the enemy and every giant in my life. Lead me on level ground. Preserve my life according to Your Word. In Jesus name, amen!
