Day 36: Hearing God’s Voice
One of the most valuable lessons we learn is how to listen to God.“Everything else pales beside the priceless experience of hearing God. Man who has heard God has enduring power to engage adversaries, confront tragedy, and surmount any problem that lies in his path because upon what God has spoken he can steadfastly rest” (Dr. Charles Stanley, How to Listen to God).
God is always speaking, but are we always listening? He speaks in many ways—primarily through His Word, the Holy Spirit, prayer, praise and worship, as well as people and circumstances. When fasting is added, our hearing becomes more acute as worldly wax is removed. Hearing God is as easy as A.B.C.: Ask Him to speak (1 Samuel 3:10), Be still (Psalm 46:10), and Come unto Him (Matthew 11:28-29). His arms are wide-open and He will speak words of hope, encouragement, healing, and deliverance. Take time to shut out the world and say, “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10).
Prayer
Thank you Lord for Your alive Word—always speaking. Thank you for Your indwelling Holy Spirit—always guiding me into truth. Forgive me for the times I’ve gone my own way, the times I’ve listened to the world and opinions of man over Your voice. Turn my eyes and my ears from worthless things. Clean out the worldly wax from my ears—I truly want to hear You more clearly Lord. “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10). In Jesus’ name, amen!
